Buckle Up

Yesterday, EA revealed the gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons at the EA Play Live event. Squadrons is a first-person game that allows players to enter the cockpit of iconic ships from the Star Wars universe and battle it out. Developed by Motive, the game will feature both single player and multiplayer modes as well as the option to play completely in VR.

The game’s single player campaign will take place after Return of the Jedi and will see players take control of fighters from both the Empire and the Alliance. The multiplayer is five-on-five and will feature a variety of modes including “Fleet Battles” in which each side will play a tug-of-war style game as they try to fight their way to the back of the enemy’s line and destroy the flagship cruiser. This mode begins with a dogfight and progresses into a bombing run on the enemy team’s cruisers.

Squadrons will give players the opportunity to choose from four different classes such as support and interceptor and will include eight classic Star Wars ships like TIE fighters and X-wings.

No Microtransactions

Motive also seems to be trying to make the game a complete package right from launch. Speaking with Game Informer, the game’s creative director confirmed that Squadrons would not have microtransactions. This was echoed on Twitter by one of the game’s writers, Mitch Dyer.

After EA’s controversial handling of microtransactions in Star Wars: Battlefront 2, this will likely come as a welcome announcement to many fans.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released on October 2, 2020. It is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Check back here for updates.
