A new Fallout is coming—but it’s a different one.

On their Twitter account, Bethesda has just released a teaser for a new addition to the Fallout series. No, it’s not Fallout 5 nor Fallout 77. it’s a TV show adaption for the series itself! The right for the TV adaptation is licensed by Amazon Studios, in partner with Kilter Films’ top producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan—the creators of the American TV series ‘Westworld’.

From their official website, Bethesda’s executive producer Todd Howard said, “Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring Fallout to the screen, but it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.”

A weird story we can’t help but love

The story of the series always revolves around the aftermath of a global nuclear war in 2077. The world has turned into a radiation soaked wasteland, with strange creatures like two-headed radstags and mutants. Our story usually begins as a Vault Dweller—an occupant of nuclear bunker made by the mysterious defence corporation Vault-Tec Industries—stepping out of their Vault the first time into the wasteland.

The storytelling of Fallout series is a tragedy turns into comedy for the people living in the wasteland. It’s a satire about how extinction changed humanity, but being told in a weird, crazy, and fun kind of way. Join a military group with medieval hierarchy system. Use bottle caps as currency. Blow an entire city because it’s distracting your balcony view. That kind of unapologetic weirdness is why we love the Fallout series so much.

And that kind of weirdness is what we want in the TV adaptation. We already had plenty of gritty, bleak dystopian TV series, so we wish that Fallout TV series can bring a new post-apocalyptic future that we can make us wince and laugh at the same time.
