Earlier today, Nintendo announced a Treehouse Live. It will air tomorrow, July 10, at 10 a.m. PT. According to the company’s tweet, viewers can expect new gameplay for the upcoming Paper Mario game as well as a “first reveal and gameplay for a title in a franchise new to developer WayForward.”

Paper Mario: The Origami King is an upcoming game for the Nintendo Switch. It’s coming to the platform July 17, 2020. Players will “join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they battle evil Folded Soldiers, repair the damaged landscape, and try to free Princess Peach’s castle from the clutches of King Olly in this comedy-filled adventure.”

But as for the new game reveal, it’s unclear what the franchise may be. Previously, WayForward published games on Nintendo’s handheld platforms including the GameBoy and the DS. They’re best known for making 2D games. Back in 2018, VentureBeat reported that the studio had been brought on to help with some development for Bloodstained Ritual of the Night.

Viewers can tune into the Treehouse Live here. And check in to Mendax Games tomorrow for updates.

Update:

Following much online speculation, Nintendo has specified in a follow-up tweet that WayForward will be working on a third-party title.
